The Suck Valley Hurling League for 2012 got underway recently with the Tooreen hurling club hosting Galway side Ahascragh/Fohenagh in their opening round tie. The games were played in the magnificent new Connacht Centre of Excellence Astropitch, with the emaculate surface proving ideal for winter hurling. The competition - which caters for U14, U16 and U18 teams - has 12 competing clubs this season with teams from Galway, Roscommon and Mayo taking part. The pre-season competition has proven very popular in recent years for providing clubs with games before their county leagues and championships commence.
